Kuttalam is small town about 6 kms fro Mayiladuthurai on the way to Kumbakonam. It is on the banks of river Kaveri. Nearer to Kaveru river, there is siva temple. The moolavar is knowna Uktha Vedeeshwarar. Karthigai is the month in which temple celeberations are conducted. It has got several Middle Schools viz Ganapathi and Soleeswara. It has got a Govt Middle School and Govt. Higher Secondary School. There is ONGC site nearby where Helium gas in natural form is being mined by Department of Science & Technology.
